(May 6, 2011) The U.S. Navy flight demonstration squadron, the Blue Angels, perform at the 2011 N'awlins Airshow at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Belle Chasse during New Orleans Navy Week, one of 21 Navy Weeks planned across America in 2011. Navy Weeks are designed to show Americans the investment they have made in their Navy and increase awareness in cities that do not have a significant Navy presence. NORFOLK (May 16, 2011) Sailors man the rails as the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) returns to Naval Station Norfolk after completing a nine-month deployment. Kearsarge was the command ship of the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group and supported maritime security operations in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility. Schedules for Art Exhibitions Released
From the museum's earliest days, aviation art has been a featured complement to the acclaimed aircraft collection, bringing to life on canvas and in vivid colors the historic people, places, ships, and aircraft in naval aviation history. During 2011-2012, two exibitions continue this tradition. The first takes place in May 2011 with a show by members of the American Society of Aviation Artists, who will be holding their annual meeting at the museum during celebrations for the Centennial of Naval Aviation.
A popular event for many years, the museum's biannual Naval Aviation Art Contest will take place in May 2012. Those wishing to submit works of art for judging should contact Ms. Robbie Musgrove at 850-452-3604, ext. 3119 or robbie.musgrove@navy.mil. Winning entries will be displayed at the museum from May 2012 through April 2013
