Preserving the USS Olympia - a Protected Cruiser

The USS Olympia, which fought in the Spanish American War of 1898 has been preserved and is a valuable piece of US maritime history. Unfortunately, Olympia needs $10-15 million in repairs to keep her a viable museum for years to come. She has not been out of water for approximately 40 years. The new, official Ships Crest of the Fast Attack Submarine MINNESOTA

  1. The three stars in the anchor chains represent the three ships named MINNESOTA
  2. The blue in the anchor chains represent the blue from the state flag of Minnesota
  3. The maroon and gold represent the University of Minnesota
  4. The Walleye in the bow represents the state fish of Minnesota
  5. The motto states 'From the North Star, Power'
  6. The blue in the background represents the lakes of Minnesota
  7. The Viking represents our states northern Europe heritage and a seafaring people
  8. The star in the helmut represents the North Star
